STATE OF LABOUR | On Contract working without protection
Contract work -legally referred to as fixed-term employment- are legal arrangements designed for temporary, seasonal, project-based, or time-limited work.
However, their repeated and unjustified use to fill ongoing positions can undermine job security, limit workers' access to employment benefits and career advancement, and create an insecure workforce in which employees perform permanent functions without the protections normally associated with permanent employment.
Join LANDS for our second State of Labour Conversation as we talk with contract workers about how this type of work impacts their lives and livelihoods.
State of Labour Dialogues aim to strengthen working-class solidarity, identify shared priorities, and explore pathways for improving working conditions across Jamaica.
