"Aging: Why Does Evolution Kill?" by Dr. Peter Lidsky. Book Presentation.
The question "What is aging?" still remains unanswered. Does aging result from the accumulation of damage, or is it programmed in our genes? Why do animals age so differently? For example, why do naked mole-rats live twenty times longer than predicted by their size? Why do flying animals live so long? Why do some animals avoid rejuvenation even though they can do it? How can we explain these puzzles, and how can we use the theories to cure aging? Can we cure aging without answering the basic questions about its nature?
Peter Lidsky's pathogen control theory approaches aging from an evolutionary perspective. This theory can answer questions that other models cannot and posits aging as a programmed adaptation intertwined with the immune system. If true, it should radically change our approach to aging and anti-aging drugs development.
On June 12th, Peter will present his new book "Aging: Why Does Evolution Kill?"
