Stile Science Changemakers: Conversation Series
Science Changemakers: Explicit vs. Inquiry
What does great science teaching actually look like?
Science Changemakers is a new, invite-only live conversation series bringing together some of the leading voices in science, education and the science of learning to tackle the big questions shaping science classrooms. No keynotes. No slide decks. No predetermined consensus. Instead, we put people with genuinely different perspectives in the same room, follow the evidence, and see where the conversation takes us.
For our first conversation, we’re taking on Explicit Instruction vs. Inquiry-Based Learning. Joining the discussion are Professor John Hattie, bringing evidence on effective teaching and learning; Dr Nathaniel Swain, on the science of learning and explicit instruction; Professor Russell Tytler, on inquiry and reasoning in science education; Paula Taylor, Head of ASTA and champion for the teaching profession; and a practising science teacher (to be confirmed), bringing the classroom reality check. The conversation will be moderated by Jaclyn Rooney, Head of Teaching & Learning at Stile.
This is a conversation for Principals, Heads of Science and teaching and learning leaders who want to go beyond the binary debate: to question, challenge and contribute as we explore when, why and how explicit instruction and inquiry belong in a great science classroom. Expect something closer to a science festival × fireside chat × great dinner-party argument: intimate, intelligent, provocative and genuinely participatory.
