About Event

Computer Vision for Creatives is an introductory workshop for designing and implementing interactive audiovisual experiences using the cv.jit package for Max MSP/Jitter. Originally created by Jean-Marc Pelettier, the cv.jit external package allows creative technologists to harness live camera feed to drive their programs in Max/Jitter. We will start with a brief introduction to the Max interface, followed by a deep dive into one possible computer vision algorithm for generative audiovisual synthesis using a laptop webcam. In the last hour, participants will expand upon this initial starting point to further their own project ideas. No experience is required, but some literacy with basic coding will help workshop attendees walk away with a strong foundation for a future project.

Laptop with webcam is required for full participation.

Before the workshop, please download Max 9 on your laptop and start a free 30 day trial: https://cycling74.com/downloads

Then download and install the cv.jit external package: https://cycling74.com/packages/cvjit

Additional documentation for linking OpenCV to cv.jit can be found here: https://github.com/Cycling74/cv.jit

Jordan Metz is an experimental artist, researcher, and creative producer working across digital and physical media, using 3D scanning, digital fabrication, ceramics, and audiovisual programming to connect the real and virtual worlds. Their practice centers the body as an interface and probes the global infrastructures that support digital life, often through interactive computer-vision systems that explore embodied relationships with technology. Their work has been exhibited at CultureHub NYC, Boston Cyberarts Gallery, Rosebud Gallery SF, and RISD, where their interactive MFA thesis The Me I’ve Made For You was shortlisted for the Artsthread x Gucci Global Design Graduate Show. They are currently a member of The Compound Gallery in Emeryville, CA.
