TAÍNA VIVA: Spoken Word
SPECIAL EVENTS: LIVE PERFORMANCE “ANACAONA ESTARÍA CONTENTA”
What if choosing calm in a chaotic world is its own form of resistance?
In “Anacaona Estaría Contenta,” Navrix brings TAÍNA VIVA into the realm of spoken word, sound, movement, and emotion.
This one-hour performance is an invitation to pause and reflect on the power of choosing presence, softness, and calm in our current times.
Presented primarily in Spanish, with translations available in English, French, and German.
About the Artist in Residence
Navrioska “Navrix” Mateo Mejía is a multidisciplinary artist from La Vega, Dominican Republic, based in New York. Her work explores identity, culture, memory, and connection, often bringing together different mediums and inviting people to experience art rather than simply look at it.
During her artist residency with New Women New Yorkers (NWNY) at Governors Island, Navrix is developing Taína Viva, a new body of work rooted in ancestral memory and spirituality.
Through mixed media, sound, and movement, Taína Viva explores immigration, identity, healing, and the possibility of carrying ancestral knowledge forward while creating new forms of collective belonging.
Connecting To Self is part of this exploration. Through drawing, breath, sound, and movement, Navrix invites participants to slow down, turn inward, and explore drawing as a way of connecting with themselves and the world around them.
