Android Meetup @ Flo.Health: Kotlin’s Creator + Google Health
We’re excited to host the Android engineering community at Flo for an evening of ideas, real-world engineering challenges, and a look at what’s next for software development.
Joining us is a very special guest: Andrey Breslav, the creator of Kotlin—a language now used in over 95% of the top 1,000 Android apps. It’s a rare opportunity to hear directly from someone who helped shape how we build for Android.
Andrey’s talk is about the future of programming as a profession: what it means to be a software engineer as AI changes how software gets built. He’s now working on CodeSpeak, his new project, and will touch on it briefly, but the focus is the bigger picture of where our profession is heading.
Our engineers at Flo will also share the challenges they tackle to deliver a great user experience across devices for more than 80 million women around the world every month. Expect a look at the engineering behind a product used at this scale, and the decisions that help make it work smoothly for our users.
There’s even more reason to be excited: we’ve just announced a multi-year partnership with Google Health, backed by a strategic investment in Flo. This makes it a particularly exciting time to bring the Android community together, and we look forward to sharing more about the partnership and what’s ahead for Flo.
To mark the occasion, we’re delighted to welcome a speaker from Google: Lavanya Arora, where she’s building Health Connect — the Android platform that lets health and fitness apps share data on the device, with users in control of their information. In more than seven years at Google, Lavanya has also worked on Wear OS, core Android experiences for people coming online for the first time, and Google Maps. She’ll share a view from inside the platform on where health on Android is heading.
Join us to connect with fellow Android engineers, exchange ideas, and explore the future of building software.
