InterdepenDance Civic Jam β
βInterdepenDance Civic Jam Β· Build America v2.50 πΊπΈ
βJuly 4th, we celebrate. July 5th, we build. π οΈ
βThe Civic Jam is a one-day build-athon to follow the InterdepenDance Day festival on the 4th:
βVisit interdependanceday.org to learn more about the full weekend of celebrations.
βCome with an idea, a skill, or just curiosity. Assemble your crew, pick something worth jamming on, and spend the day making it real. You'll leave with real progress: a software prototype, a grassroots campaign, or even a song πΆ
βπ§ Our Game Plan
βπ Arrive (11:30): Doors open. Grab coffee, a name tag, and meet the room β we ease in and build momentum.
βπ¬ Kick off (12:00 sharp): We open with intro discussions around civics and democracy, intros, and projects ideas to warm up the room, meet your neighbors, and take time to imagine the mission that makes your America v2.50 true.
βπ Pick a mission (12:45): Missions get pitched as plots β the problem, the world after, the plan, and the superpowers it needs. Raise your hand for the ones that pull you, join a crew of 3 to 5, or lead your own. Some ideas are already in the room: AI for (not against) democracy π€, voting π³οΈ, circular economy β»οΈ, clean energy β‘, local media and information π», and more.
βπ οΈ Start building (1:15): You've got the afternoon to jam. Checkpoints at 2:00 and 4:00 keep things moving. Along the way, every crew captures its mission on one page β together, the pages become the day's zine π°
βπ£οΈ+π₯ Lunch & Building with Values Discussions (2-3pm) with Jesse Katz (co-founder and Executive Director of Speech Without Borders, speech.ngo) and Nicole Ozer (Executive Director of the Electronic Frontier Foundation, eff.org) on how to build and innovate from a foundation of principles and with privacy built it.
βThanks to our delicious values-aligned lunch provider, Mandela Grocery & Kitchen Cooperative! Enjoy the treats while knowing you're helping build a better country and democracy!
βπ€ Share (5:00): Every crew shows what they made. A few minutes each: your plot, your progress, your next chapter.
βπ Get a ride with Fare.Coop! Closest station is Fruitvale BART!
βWeβre excited to welcome Fare Co-op, a driver-owned rideshare cooperative now operating in the Bay Area, as our official transportation partner!
βπ² Download the Fare Co-op Customer app and create your account using this link: https://fare.coop/referral/?ref=9FDIO5PZ
βGrab some friends and come early, and let's support companies that will help us build the America v2.50 we dream of living in! Cooperatives rock!
βπ¦Έ Who this is for
