National Council on AIDS

​The National Council on AIDS is a statutory activity of NACA for the effective coordination of the National HIV/AIDS response; it is in line with NACA Establishment Act of 2006. The NCA serves as a pivotal coordination platform for stakeholders to deliberate on strategies aimed at advancing the national HIV/AIDS multisectoral response. The NCA is envisioned to be held annually.

​The 6th NCA, held from May 17 to 19, 2022, in Abuja, with the theme: “Innovative Approaches towards HIV Epidemic Control and Programme Sustainability at State Level.” This event convened 218 participants from various sectors, including NACA, relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), State Agencies for the Control of AIDS (SACAs), relevant state MDAs, UN Agencies, PEPFAR, AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF), Implementing Partners (IPs), Donors, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), Faith-Based Organisations, Media, Community and Networks, etc. The primary objective was to review progress from the resolutions of the 5th NCA, consider new memoranda, and set policy agenda for the national HIV/AIDS multisectoral response.

​In line with global targets to end AIDS by 2030 and the changing global policy on aid, NACA has continued to spearhead initiatives that foster collaboration, innovation, and community engagement with stakeholders at all levels. The upcoming 7th NCA aims to build on previous efforts, contributing significantly to the ongoing conversations and actions for a government-led and sustainably financed HIV multisectoral response in Nigeria.
