AI Real Talk: Spotting AI Slop with Pangram's CEO

​The company Pangram has built the leading product for detecting if purportedly human-written words were actually generated by machines. Their work was among the first to publicly prove the novel “Shy Girl” was largely written by AI, and the book was eventually pulled from store shelves. Pangram has also identified reams of AI-assisted content on legitimate news sites, and it’s tracking the continued growth of machine-generated text that’s now at nearly 10 percent of all articles … and rising. They have also released an open version of their AI-detection model.

​Pangram CEO Max Spero — or the “slop janitor” as he has called himself — will join us for the latest Hacks/Hackers AI Real Talk to speak about his company’s work, how it does what it does and why it matters. As usual, we’ll take lots of community questions too.

​Tom Rachman — AI policy writer for Google DeepMind and a former journalist who also wrote the best-selling novel "The Imperfectionists" — will join us to lead the discussion with Max. Tom's recent essay "5 Rules of AI Writing" was a reflection on the value of human writing in a world where AI text is everywhere, which he wrote after an interview with Max.
