The Film Club is back at 375 Water St. It's the monthly room for filmmakers, VFX artists, editors, writers, and creative technologists to screen each other's work, walk through how it was made, and trade the AI tools that are actually holding up. Kevin Friel hosts. You leave with new tools to try, a few people to build with, and a clearer read on what's real versus hype this month.
What happens in the room
Short screenings of member work, with the makers walking through the how.
Live tool demos and workflow walkthroughs: scripting, generation, post, sound.
The month's focus segment, then open floor for questions and collaboration.
Show-and-tell: bring a clip, a work-in-progress, or a problem you're stuck on.
This month's prompt challenge: Neon Gods
Neon Gods is the September prompt, and to be specific about it: old gods in a new world. Sixty seconds or less, MP4, any tools. Send it to we.are@tinyghoststudios.com by midnight on Monday, September 7, then be ready to walk the room through how you made it.
The prompt challenge started in January as a dumb idea that stuck. One prompt, whoever wants in makes something, and we screen them all together the following month. It has been a toilet paper ad, zombies, and most recently Space Opera, which filled the August room with work nobody saw coming. You do not have to enter to come, and you do not have to be good at this to enter.
Who it's for
Filmmakers and creators of every role: directors, editors, cinematographers, VFX and sound people, writers, plus the AI-curious and students figuring out where they fit. All levels. You don't need to make AI films to belong here.
Not a lecture, not a demo-day pitch. A working room where people show real, unfinished stuff.

Where: Multimodal Media Lab, 375 Water St, Vancouver (Gastown).
Bring: a laptop if you want to demo; otherwise just yourself.
Community: 150+ filmmakers in the Film Club WhatsApp. Ask for an invite at the event.

Hosts
Kevin Friel: Nura Studios filmmaker and VFX artist, 25+ years from traditional post to generative workflows. The "Punk Rock AI" guy.
Kris Krüg: creative technologist and community instigator, on how AI reshapes culture and creative power.
Magenta Rúne: director and co-founder of Tiny Ghost Studios, creator of the AI-animated series Blood and Glitter. Runs the monthly prompt challenge with Mayumi.
Mayumi Rollings: co-founder and CEO of Tiny Ghost Studios, running Film Club alongside Kevin since it started in January. Background in film and games, leads the AI animation accelerator, and collects the prompt challenge submissions.
Yangos Hadjiyiannis: Experience Director at Multimodal Media Lab, the Gastown room that hosts us every month. Two decades and 250+ immersive projects, including Alexandria: Port of Worlds for Cannes XR and Living Sanctuary for the SIGGRAPH VR Theater.

Presented by BC + AI, British Columbia's member-supported nonprofit AI industry association. Monthly Film Club screenings since 2025, building toward the 2nd Annual BC + AI Film Festival this October.

The Screens
Every Film Club screening runs on Clear LED, courtesy of Joel, who some of you know around town as George Croney. Their displays are up at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Wells Fargo Center in New Jersey, Primark in Madrid, Concord Pacific here in Vancouver, and the National Arts Centre in Ottawa. The big cube in the room next door is theirs too, and they do experimentation and prototyping with these screens at MML. Come see what the room is actually watching on.
