The Sultans Trail & Other Journeys

​This week at our Business English Club, Tim and I will start conversations about walking part of the Sultans Trail from Smolyan to Kurdjali (with a few motorised lifts) and what changes when you travel slowly.

​Inspired partly by a French documentary about walking and happiness, this will be a relaxed, reflective session about journeys, landscapes, chance encounters, and the ideas that come from having space to think.

​The Sultans Trail runs from Istanbul to Vienna, following an old route linked to the Ottoman campaigns towards Europe. Today, it is a long-distance walking path connecting people from different cultures. Even a small part of it left us with stories and memories to share.

​We’ll explore the language of travel, discovery, and reflection, and everyone is welcome to bring their own stories from journeys.

​Tim Ward is a literature teacher, avid reader, longtime walker, and cyclist who once cycled from England to Bulgaria and has made many other A-to-B journeys, collecting plenty of stories along the way.
