About Event

On behalf of the Invest in UK University R&D Midlands Campaign, we would be delighted if you could join us for the Launch of the Commission on Devolution and Diplomacy Report, which will take place at the UK Global R&D and Science Investment Summit hosted at The Royal Society during London Tech Week.

At a time of both acute geopolitical turbulence and a critical domestic political and economic imperative to drive growth and create opportunities across UK regions; the Commission has been established to explore how Mayors, Leaders of Devolved Nations and the UK Government work together on international investment, trade and place promotion? And what is the opportunity for local and national government to more effectively leverage the global connections, reputation and relationships of one of the UK’s leading soft-power and knowledge diplomacy assets: UK universities?

At a time of constrained capacity and external pressure, there is a clear collaboration dividend for the UK to develop a dynamic new model of ‘Devolution Diplomacy’ with Mayors, Universities, Industry and the Government coming together to forge a new era for British knowledge and civic soft power.

Please join the Co-Chairs of our Advisory Board, Claire Ward, Mayor of the East Midlands Combined County Authority and Richard Parker, Mayor of the West Midlands Combined Authority alongside speakers including:

  • Laura Citron, CEO London & Partners

  • Rt Hon Greg Clark, Executive Chair of the University of Warwick Innovation District

Alongside the Report Authors and representatives from the UK Government to discuss some of the key findings and recommendations, as well as opportunities to take forward this agenda in support of the UK’s Modern Industrial Strategy.
