Is There More to It Than Just Broad ETFs
βπ₯ JOIN THE NEXT LUX FINANCE CIRCLE
βπ’ Welcome to our next Lux Finance Circle event!
βYou did the hard part already. You picked a broad world ETF, you set up the monthly order, and you stopped touching it. Then someone at work mentions gold. A newsletter explains why emerging markets are cheap right now. Your bank has a pillar 3 contract with your name on it. Your employer offers you shares at a discount. And the fund that was supposed to be the whole answer starts to feel like the answer you give a beginner.
βPS: Want in before the waitlist? New events are announced early in our Community WhatsApp: https://whatsapp.smoney.lu
βBoth readings are defensible. One fund holding several thousand companies is genuinely a complete portfolio for a lot of people, and the case for leaving it alone is stronger than it sounds. It is also true that a single world fund leaves things out on purpose, and that some of what it leaves out matters more to a resident here than to the American whose blog post you read about it.
βThe part that rarely gets discussed is what an extra line costs before it earns anything, and the test that would tell you in five years whether it was worth it. That is where this evening goes.
βπ§ Format of the Event
βThis is a casual, discussion-based gathering with no long presentations. We'll sit around the table, and your host Romain will kick things off with a short introduction covering:
βWhat one broad world ETF already gives you, and the things it deliberately leaves out: your home currency, bonds, property, and anything that pays you an income
βThe three reasons people add a second line, which are a belief about future returns, a need the fund does not cover, or boredom, and what happens to each one when you put numbers on it
βWhat a tilt costs before it earns anything: the fee difference, the withholding tax that depends on where the fund is domiciled, and a longer tax return every year
βRomain will say what he holds himself, including the additions he now regrets, and the same questions get put to him.
βFrom there, we open the floor for discussion. Bring what you own, and the line you are least able to justify.
βπ₯ Who Can Join?
βEveryone is welcome. This discussion will be especially valuable if you are:
βSomeone who has been buying the same world ETF for two or three years and wonders whether that is the whole job.
βSomeone who has added gold, crypto, small caps, dividend stocks or employer shares and cannot say whether it helped.
βSomeone being offered a pillar 3 contract or a structured product as "diversification", who wants to test that word before signing.
βπ€ Bring a Colleague
βKnow someone who keeps saying their portfolio is too basic and is about to do something about it? Bring them along. This session is built for exactly that conversation.
