Common Ground Speaker Series is excited to invite high school juniors/seniors along with their parents to join two nationally respected admissions experts and the authors of The Truth about College Admission, Rick Clark (Georgia Tech) and Brennan Barnard (Khan Lab School), for a candid conversation about navigating the college admission process.

With insight from both the college and high school perspectives, they will help you better understand how decisions are made, reduce stress at home, and support your student in making thoughtful, informed choices about college.

This is a practical evening for families ready to think clearly and invite the honest conversation that holds families together through application season and the years that follow.

ABOUT OUR SPEAKERS

Brennan Barnard, M.Ed is the Director of College Counseling and Outreach at Khan Lab School, CA and the Director of College Counseling for the College Guidance Network. He also serves as the College Admissions Program Advisor with the Making Caring Common, a project of the Harvard Graduate School of Education. A contributing writer for Forbes.com, he has written about college admission for the Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Thrive Global, HuffPost.

Rick Clark is the Assistant Vice Provost of Enrollment Management and Executive Director of Undergraduate Admissions at Georgia Tech. In this role, he directs the Institute’s recruitment and outreach efforts, directs the review of all undergraduate applications, and manages the admission team. Under his leadership, Georgia Tech has increased undergraduate enrollment by 30%; expanded and diversified its geographic reach across Georgia, the U.S., and globally. He is a member of Leadership Georgia, the past-chair of Tech's Staff Council, and has served on NACAC's Government Relations and Future of College Admission committees. He is a national speaker about the landscape of college admissions.

Together, Brennan and Rick are the founders of Holistic Admission Consulting and the co-authors of The Truth about College Admission: A Family Guide to Getting In and Staying Together. They host a podcast under the same name.

The Common Ground Speaker Series presents distinguished speakers in education, parenting, and health at venues across the San Francisco Peninsula. Our 2026-2027 Series will be a hybrid season with some events online and some in person. Parents, faculty, and staff at our member schools attend the Common Ground online events free of charge. Faculty and educators from non-member schools are also invited to participate free of charge. Guests from non-member schools and the general community can register and attend. Each attendee must register individually. Registration closes 12 hours before the start of this event or when the maximum registration capacity is reached.

Students who are Juniors or Seniors at Member Schools are welcome to register for this event and attend at no charge. Select the "STUDENT" ticket and register with your school email.

Guests from non-member schools and the general community can register and attend this in-person event for a fee. Please select the "NON-MEMBER $10.00" ticket option.

We also welcome educators from member and nonmember schools to attend our events free of charge.  However, we'd like to get a better understanding of our audience and interests, and request that you register with your work / school .edu email address.  Educators must be employees of accredited educational institutions.
