AI is having an impact across the entire industry, but the constraint it relieves is different at every stage:
In biology, the constraint is understanding. Most drugs fail because the disease hypothesis was wrong to begin with. Today, foundation models trained on patient data are beginning to predict who will respond before a drug enters the clinic.
In drug design, the constraint is throughput and attrition. Machine learning models now generate more candidates faster, but the ultimate test is whether they fail less often in the clinic – where the vast majority of time and capital are spent.
In care delivery, the core constraint is labor. Specialized AI agents are now mature enough to absorb the patient-facing work that never required a clinical license.
The evening will follow that arc. Cellanome and Noetik on biological understanding – multimodal patient data and foundation models – and what these models can and cannot yet predict. Enveda, BigHat, and Kriya will weigh on design – small molecules, antibodies, and gene therapies – and whether faster design is also producing molecules that survive the clinic. We'll hear from Hippocratic AI on labor – what happens when AI meets the patient directly.
