Virtues in Conflict Workshop
What if an app existed to journal your experiences with moments of tension or conflict in your daily life? And what if you could use that app to set goals for how to improve and better navigate these situations? Meet VIC, the Virtues in Conflict app!
This app is part of a pilot project developed at Columbia University’s Morton Deutsch International Center for Cooperation and Conflict Resolution (MD-ICCCR) and launched in collaboration with the Trust Collaboratory as a research study for the wider Columbia community.
The VIC study draws on research in conflict resolution, political polarization, as well as virtues and character strengths. Using VIC app user data gathered through brief, structured daily reflections, the study examines how people identify, assess, and evaluate conflicts, as well as how they define personal virtues in need of improvement.
If you want to participate in this study and use this app to document your experiences at the Listening Tables and beyond, register for our Virtues in Conflict Workshop on October 9, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 2:15 PM in Schiff Room at Earl Hall.
Pedro Franco (PhD student at Teachers College) will lead the workshop, introduce the research and ideas behind VIC, give students an opportunity to experience the app, and invite interested participants to take part in this study.
Note: If you want to get the most out of this workshop, we invite you to complete the VIA Character Strengths Survey (it’s voluntary and takes about 10-15 minutes).
