About Event

Raising venture capital is about much more than negotiating a valuation. In early-stage biotech, valuation reflects scientific risk, development milestones, financing strategy, ownership, and the potential to create future value.

This interactive workshop led by Xin Hang, Senior Principal at CTI Life Sciences Fund and MaRS' Advisor. The workshop will provide a practical, VC-focused framework for understanding how biotech companies are valued and financed. Attendees will learn how venture investors evaluate opportunities, assess risk, determine ownership targets, estimate valuation, and review financing terms. The session also covers forecasting, common valuation methodologies, term sheet economics, and fundraising strategy—giving founders a better understanding of what drives investment decisions.

Who should attend?
This workshop is designed primarily for first-time biotech founders and CEOs preparing to raise institutional capital. Due to the limited space of the venue, all registered attendees must be approved and priority goes to founders. Scientists, entrepreneurs, investors, students, and anyone interested in learning how biotech valuation works from the perspective of venture capital investors will be considered if there is space.
