Topic 1: An Intro To Apache Iceberg™, Danica Fine @ Snowflake
In this beginner-friendly session, we'll introduce Apache Iceberg™ and core features, like schema evolution, hidden partitioning, and ACID-compliant transactions. Learn how Iceberg solves key data lake challenges and integrates with open-source tools.
Topic 2: Get Hands-On with Iceberg using Apache Spark™, Shane Glass @ Google
Apache Iceberg™ solves critical data lake challenges like consistency and schema evolution, enabling database-level reliability for massive, open-source datasets. This hands-on session will explore Iceberg's powerful capabilities by demonstrating its direct integration with Apache Spark™ for efficient table creation, manipulation, and querying. We will focus on core features like partition evolution, time-travel queries, and data compaction after establishing a serverless Spark session, giving attendees practical experience they can try for themselves.
Topic 3: Open Data Infrastructure with Iceberg and dbt, Connor McArthur @ dbt
Apache Iceberg is now interoperable with most modern data platforms and compute systems. While Iceberg enables powerful new capabilities, real-world adoption still presents challenges for many organizations. In this session, we'll examine the state of the dbt+Iceberg integration across warehouses and catalogs; demonstrate a novel architecture where multiple warehouses connect to the same underlying Iceberg catalog; and discuss the maturity and continued investment needed to ensure Iceberg's success.
