Meet 3 Featured Local Authors -

Arnav Bhardwaj:

Arnav Bhardwaj is a writer and credit risk analytics professional based in Toronto. With a lifelong love for adventure stories, he blends mystery, history, and speculative elements into his writing. The Bird That Ruled Bombay is his debut novel, praised for its unique cross genre blend of science fiction, adventure, mystery and historical fiction.

Set against the bustling streets of Bombay, the novel combines elements of mystery, science fiction, and suspense. When strange birds wearing medieval jewels begin to disturb the city, a group of unlikely companions are pulled into a dangerous web of secrets hidden in plain sight. From cryptic symbols to perilous encounters, the story follows Samantha, Karan, and others as they uncover a truth that was buried 300 years ago.

Irina Moga:

Irina Moga is a member of The Writers’ Union of Canada and the author of six poetry collections. Her book Variations sans palais (Éditions L’Harmattan, Paris) received the 2022 Dina Sahyouni International Literary Prize in France. Her poems have in publications such as Canadian Literature, carte blanche, New York Quarterly, and California Quarterly. Her work has been nominated for the SFPA Rhysling Award and Best of the Net and translated into German, Spanish, Korean and Farsi.

Through mathematical concepts, natural imagery, and personal reflection, Irina Moga’s Quantum is an intricate and introspective exploration of the boundaries we perceive in life, the inevitable passage of time, and the things that always seem just beyond our reach. These poems convey that our understanding of the past, our identity, and ourselves is fleeting and incomplete. Yet, there is beauty in this impermanence, as memory and experience shape us in ways that are both profound and elusive. The more you read these poems, the more multifaceted they become, revealing new patterns and meanings—much like discovering deeper levels of detail in a fractal. Each poem in Quantum draws you further into its mysterious orbit, offering an experience that is both intimate and expansive, cerebral and sensory.

Ishaa Vinod Chopra:

Ishaa Vinod Chopra is pursuing a Thesis for a Master of Science in Critical Family & Kinship Studies with an interdisciplinary focus on Gender, Sexualities and Bodies at the University of Guelph, Canada. Her academic background spans Performing Arts and Early Childhood Education. As an artist-scholar, her work has been featured in York University’s thesis film ‘Unfinished’, Workman Arts Organization programming, Rendezvous with Madness, Stella’s Place film festivals and academic conferences, e.g Children’s Mental Health Ontario-CMHO. Her writing, inspired by her Supervisor, Dr. Adam W.J. Davies, has appeared in AECEO’s eceLINK journal. She continues to disseminate her research at academic conferences, e.g. Children’s Mental Health Ontario (CMHO). Founder of the Non-Profit Finding Order in Disorder, her projects include hybrid podcasts, therapeutic dance and community engagement for mental well-being.

Ishaa battled bipolar disorder for over a decade. She has also been a survivor of domestic abuse in her short-lived marriage. Finding Order in Disorder is a stunning memoir of her experiences battling enormous odds and emerging triumphant. In lucid, simple prose the author addresses what it is like to be diagnosed with bipolar disorder, how it affects interpersonal relationships, and how societal norms influence our understanding of and responses to mental health issues. She also narrates how these traumatic and life- altering experiences have helped her gain insights into life and empowered her to the extent that along with being an early childhood educator, she is now an active campaigner for mental health. With wisdom stemming from first-hand experience, she provides a haunting account of repeated hospitalizations, heavy medication, heartbreak, and discrimination based on diagnosis, while advocating the importance of art therapy, dance, yoga and self-love to cope with mental health issues. Brutally honest and often piercing in its observations, this is a memoir that is both heart-wrenching and inspirational.
