TRANSFORMING HEALTHCARE: Human Flourishing for Everyone
βOverview
βHealthcare is broken, especially for those who need it most. We all share the cost. Join us to help change that!
βπ Friday, Aug 28 | 12-2 PM
βAfter a few month hiatus, we're back in San Francisco and super excited about our lineup, our topic and the NEW location! Homebridge on Market Street is the perfect place for this gathering!
βHealthcare is broken, especially for those who need it most β the poor and the marginalized, but we all share the cost of those shortcomings. It's not for lack of resources β the United States spends more on healthcare than any other developed nation on earth. The money is there, what's missing is collaboration. The system is deeply fragmented, so the excellence is constrained to silos, while the overall outcomes remain subpar. Passionate people from various disciplines are working hard β often in the same zip code β but rarely in the same room. That fragmentation is wasting money and sabotaging results.
βThe good news: it's fixable. We've seen it work. Cross-sector collaboration β the right people in the same room, intentionally, with clarity of purpose β produces results no single organization can match alone. That's what INNOVAT3 does. In this gathering we'll explore what could happen if we apply that model to healthcare.
βThe Panel
βWe've deliberately assembled five people who would not normally be in the same room.
βA physician who treats the whole person. A chef-turned-venture capitalist deploying capital into healthcare for communities traditional investors ignore. The CEO of one of San Francisco's most respected nonprofit healthcare organizations. A Silicon Valley engineer who walked away from a successful startup to build a faith-based health center β and who emerged from wrongful incarceration to launch one of the most innovative reentry programs in the state. And a Dartmouth graduate who battled bipolar disorder and addiction for a decade before becoming one of America's most compelling voices on mental health.
βπ What We'll Explore
βThis is a facilitated roundtable. We bias toward action. Come ready to enage and be challenged.
βWhat does truly holistic healthcare look like β and why is the system so resistant to it?
βWhere are the silos in Bay Area healthcare, and what does leaving them intact actually cost us?
βWhat happens when faith communities, entrepreneurs, and civic leaders build together instead of working in parallel?
βWhat can you do, starting now?
βYour Moderators
βTed Hahs and Paul Peissner. Between them, over 50 years of building relationships across Silicon Valley boardrooms, city halls, faith communities, and frontline nonprofits β connecting sectors that rarely talk to each other, toward outcomes none of them could produce alone.
βπ Featured Guests:
βDr. Juliana Liang, MD β Integrative Functional Medicine Physician
βA graduate of the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA with clinical experience at UCSF and Sharp HealthCare, Dr. Liang practices integrative functional medicine β treating the whole person rather than just the symptom. Her work integrates physical, emotional, and spiritual dimensions of health, drawing on growing research showing that meaning, community, and faith are not peripheral to healing β they are central to it.
βJens Hoj β Chef, Entrepreneur & General Partner, MVMT Ventures
βA former fine-dining chef who helped build KRAVE Jerky into a category-disrupting brand acquired by Hershey's, Jens now brings that same spirit of innovation to healthcare as General Partner at MVMT Ventures β a fund focused on healthcare for underserved communities through the strategic use of AI for good. Guided by faith, he views leadership as stewardship and leads with a servant's heart.
βMin Chang β CEO, Homebridge
βMin Chang leads one of San Francisco's most respected nonprofit healthcare organizations, dedicated to making independent living possible for vulnerable populations. She brings more than 35 years of strategic leadership across six continents, a Doctorate in International Affairs from Johns Hopkins, and an MS from MIT Sloan. We are grateful to Min and the Homebridge team for opening their doors and welcoming us into this space.
βBrett Bymaster β Co-Founder & Executive Director, Healing Grove Health Center
βBrett began his career as a Silicon Valley circuit design engineer β earning two patents β before walking away to pursue full-time ministry. He co-founded Healing Grove Health Center, a faith-based network of 7 physicians and a team of 50 serving 2,500 patients across 4 Northern California locations. After being incarcerated under false allegations in 2024, Brett turned that experience into fuel β launching an innovative reentry program that has served more than 700 justice-impacted clients in just two years. One of the most compelling and unexpected voices in holistic, faith-rooted healthcare.
βDavid Shamszad β Author & Mental Health Advocate | CEO, SG Real Estate
βDavid spent more than a decade battling untreated bipolar disorder and addiction before finding sobriety and success. Today he is CEO of SG Real Estate and author of I Am Someone You Know β a raw memoir about mental illness, addiction, and recovery that is changing how America talks about mental health. A Dartmouth graduate and proud Oakland native, he brings something no medical degree can confer: the authority of someone who lived the story, survived it, and came back to help others through it.
