Introduction to Race Crew

​If you're interested in learning how to crew on a racing yacht in San Francisco Bay, this event is for you. And if you're a skipper looking for new crew, or just interested in helping to educate folks about being crew, we also want you to participate.

​ Racing on the water in sailboats can be a lot of fun and very exciting, but it also can be mysterious to people who haven't already experienced it. It's actually not that hard to learn some of the basic jobs on a racing boat. In this online zoom event, we'll introduce you to what it means to be crew during a race. We'll talk about what kind of activities you'll do on the boat, what do you need to do to be safe, and also what the boat's captain is looking for when they're recruiting new crew. We'll also have boat captains participating in the event, and you'll have an opportunity to make contact with them so that you can potentially be picked up for a race as novice crew.

​And Skippers, many of you have told us at YRA that one of the reasons you don't get out on the water as often as you'd like to is because you have a hard time finding crew.  This is your opportunity to meet folks who are interested in racing on your boat, And also can be a chance for you to add to our agenda from your experience on the bay with tips on what it takes to be a good crew.
