DC Day Trips - Old Town ALX Urban Outdoors Tour
βJoin DC Day Trips for a local adventure!
βWhere are we going this time?
Old Town Alexandria! We're headed nearly all the way to the end of the π‘π΅ lines to historic old town. This is an outdoorsy walking tour that will take you to an Alexandria beyond colonial homes and brick streets and into the natural environment that the city is built on.
βOld Town and Jones Point (a National Park Service site) feel like a gateway to old DC because they are. Alexandria actually predates the founding of DC, and once, Jones Point was the southern most tip of the District of Columbia. How this city emerged along the side of the Potomac is a story of humans v. the natural environment.
βFor this tour, we'll walk along the Potomac River toward Jones Point National Park Service site and see how nature is being revived after centuries of human impact. Along river and in the park, you can spot all sorts of water-based wildlife like geese and cormorants or bald eagles and osprey. The park itself is home to more than 190 wild bird and mammal species.
βOnce we make our way back into Old Town, we'll settle into a more traditional historic walking tour. We'll explore around the neighborhood along cobbled streets while taking in the fun Halloween decorations. Our tour ends at a sweet treat destination, but we'll make sure to point out some interesting sights and shops along the way.
βMake sure you bring your cameras on this tour, there's going to be a lot to see! ποΈπΈ
βIs this a historic tour?
βSort of. This is not your classic history tour where we center the conversation on the American Revolution, the Civil War, or George Washington. Of course, these events and famous figures will come up, but our main focus is on how the natural environment and city interact.
βArrival Details will be shared after sign-up
βAbout Us
DC Day Trips is cultivating a community of Washingtonians who love the outdoors and want to spend less time planning and more time connecting with nature and friends.
βWe believe the outdoors should be more accessible to DC residents (no car? no problem). That's why we help plan ALL the logistics, including transportation.
βThis summer and fall, we are hosting trips to hike, explore, and gather in the incredible outdoor spaces the DMV has to offer. Destinations are just outside the beltway, only 1-3 hours away from DC.
Visit the DC Day Trips website to learn more who we are, what we're about, and what else is coming up!
