#MotherTonguesUnited
Every October, we celebrate the many Creole languages, cultures, and communities that continue to shape our world.
This year, #MotherTonguesUnited turns our attention from why Kreyòl matters to how Kreyòl gets taught—and to the people building the classrooms, curricula, tools, and programs that make learning the language possible.
Join the NYU Center for Latin American & Caribbean Studies and the Haitian Creole Language Institute of New York for an intimate conversation with two Kreyòl language educators and entrepreneurs:
Wynnie Lamour-Quansah, founder of the Haitian Creole Language Institute of New York
Marleen Julien, founder of Creole Solutions
Together, we will pull back the curtain on what it means to teach a heritage language in the dyaspora. From creating curricula where few materials exist, to reaching heritage speakers, second-language learners, and professionals, to sustaining independent language programs outside traditional institutions, this conversation will explore the work behind Kreyòl language education.
Expect a candid conversation about what it takes to build language education with intention, creativity, and community.
The conversation will take place in English and Kreyòl.
Come listen, ask questions, and be part of the conversation about where Kreyòl education is going next.
