About Event

We would like to invite you to "From Silos to Systems, Projects to Portfolios: How Philanthropy Can Better Support Inclusive Development" a strategic dialogue co-organised by Temasek Trust and UNDP during UNGA Week.

Development challenges rarely arrive one at a time. Health, education, livelihoods and climate are deeply entangled, yet the financing and institutions built to address them are not. Projects succeed, and problems persist anyway, because the systems beneath them keep reproducing the same patterns. This tension is especially visible in Asia, where rapid and uneven transitions are pushing existing models of inclusive development to their limits.

This session marks the launch of our joint working paper, From Silos to Systems, Projects to Portfolios: How Philanthropy Can Better Support Inclusive Development, an invitation to funders, development actors and institutions to think differently about what it means to fund change that lasts. Rather than asking whether a single project succeeded, we'll explore a bigger question: is the system itself beginning to shift?

This session will focus on the following questions:

  • Where philanthropy can add distinctive value within systems change and what that demands funders do differently

  • How philanthropy, government and multilateral institutions can combine capital, capabilities and roles more effectively

  • What it actually takes: evidence, institutions, financing, to move from portfolio thinking to portfolio practice

The session will also feature real-world cases, such as Senegal, who are orchestrating and blending multiple sources of capital, philanthropic, public and other financing, around a shared goal of shifting the underlying system, rather than funding isolated interventions. Voices from Temasek Trust, UNDP and partners across philanthropy and development finance will ground the conversation in practice, before an open dialogue among participants on where philanthropy goes from here.

This is a working conversation, not a showcase, come ready to share, question and build the next chapter together.
