John Ramsay
John Ramsay is a former corporate lawyer turned health-tech social entrepreneur and the CEO & Founder of Social-Ability. Driven by his personal experience caring for his father following a young-onset dementia diagnosis, John left his legal career at Linklaters to transform quality of life within the care sector. He launched the "Happiness Programme" across 9 countries - pioneering the use of interactive sensory light technology to alleviate loneliness, destigmatise dementia, and bring joyful, therapeutic play to thousands of individuals across care homes, NHS partners, and community spaces. A passionate advocate for innovative care models and intergenerational connection, John also serves as a Trustee for Age UK Wandsworth.
Nicholas Troen
Nicholas Troen is the Head of Entrepreneurship at St Paul's School and Founder of the Start It Entrepreneurship Programme. He also serves as a Director and committee member at CAN. Prior to teaching, Nicholas launched his entrepreneurial career in his early 20s as the co-founder and director of Poncho 8, a fast-casual Mexican burrito chain. He scaled the brand from a single East London storefront into a multi-unit central London chain, raising over £1 million in capital and driving annual turnover past £2.5 million before transitioning out of the business in 2015.
About CAN
The Capital Angel Network (CAN) is an angel investor network made up of alumni from St Paul’s Girls’ School, St Paul’s Boys School, and Hammersmith Academy. As an established alumni community, we have an enviable opportunity to support entrepreneurs from all backgrounds, as well as to ‘give back’ through widening access and increasing bursaries.
CAN will offer founders, alumni or not, access to a network of engaged investors, who are open to providing seed, early-stage or growth capital. These angels will in turn, pledge to donate up to 20% of related proceeds to support the founding mission of the schools that educated them; namely creating bursaries and opportunities for children no matter their background.
Our overriding goal is to build a virtuous flow of new capital between alumni, businesses and schools to fuel growth and expand access. While we’re at it, however, we also want to create some fun and approachable networking settings for the alumni of all partner schools.
Purpose:
Build a virtuous flow of new capital between alumni, businesses and schools to fuel growth and expand access.
Mission:
Through creating a fun and accessible angel network of investment and networking opportunities for alumni of partner schools.
Vision:
Provide capital to fuel the growth of the brightest businesses and minds no matter their background.
