The future is collective. Collectives help us learn how to share the responsibility of caring for ourselves and our communities as we work toward building a new world.
What does it mean to be part of a collective? A “collective” is an umbrella term for any group of people who work together in a non-hierarchical formation to manage the group. Whether you’re a parent in a neighborhood WhatsApp chat or a worker-owner at a cooperatively owned coffee shop, you might consider yourself part of a collective. Our experiences in collectives might be impacted by how others choose to show up, making collective work a challenge for many. In this workshop, we’ll start exploring how we in turn can also step up to shape collective work for the better.
This workshop is co-hosted with OpenMFA for artist-organizers who want to explore the many layers of political action within cultural organizing collectives. This project is funded in part by the City of Houston through Houston Arts Alliance.
