Consulting often means you’re an expert in your craft — but running your own consultancy means stepping into the CEO seat, where the skill set changes dramatically. Suddenly, you’re not just delivering client work — you’re building a business, shaping strategy, and leading yourself through constant change.

In this interactive session, StartupExperts member Sue Olsen will share her perspective on one of the key skills for a business owner: clienteling. Drawing on six years of successfully running her business, Sue will offer practical tips on staying fresh, profitable, and relevant in the ever-changing world of consultancy.

Then, fellow StartupExperts member Maggie Redling will lead a portion of a larger workshop on “Finding Your Skillmate.” While you might not leave with a new mentor, Maggie will introduce a fresh, flexible model where anyone can be a coach, a learner, or both — unlocking growth through real-time, real-world connections.

Attendees will identify the skills they need to thrive as a CEO and begin exploring where and how to develop them for long-term success.

Susan (Sue) Olsen is the Founder of Red Thread Consulting and a global human resources executive who works with CEOs and Boards of Directors to unleash the potential of leadership to drive exceptional business results. As a CHRO, her expertise is organizational transformation, change management and cultural reinvention. Her clients include both private and public emerging- growth companies in various regulated and non-regulated industries, including high-tech, biotech, medical device wearables, cyber security, and venture capital firms.

Maggie Redling is a dynamic HR leader and co-founder of Wrestling With Talent, known for blending creativity, strategy, and a touch of fun to help organizations thrive. With over 15 years of experience guiding companies through growth, change, and transformation, she specializes in leadership development, change management, and creating engaging learning experiences that drive real results.
