About Event

Social Health for Community Builders

We've got gym memberships for our bodies, we've got therapy for our minds... but there's a third pillar of our wellbeing that often gets overlooked entirely: Social Health, our ability to form meaningful relationships, adapt to social situations, and feel a genuine sense of belonging within the communities we're part of.

Many community builders in Toronto, whether they’re aware of it or not, are providing spaces for people to enhance their social health. We want to equip you with the knowledge and tools you need to do that intentionally, creatively, and meaningfully while connecting you with other Toronto-based community builders, whether you run a book club, a run club, an artist community, or something else entirely!

Hey, we're Audrey & Johnny. We're both Toronto-based community builders, and we're going to have an honest conversation about why social health matters, how to nurture it in the communities you're building, and how to take care of your own so you actually have the capacity to show up for those in your communities (whether you are trying to start or grow your own!)

Through personal stories and evidence-based approaches, we will share what we've personally learned from running events and building communities in this city, and create space for the rest of us to do the same.

Whether you're running a tight-knit community, or just starting to build one, we’d love to have you join us for a warm bevvy with us and your likeminded friends-to-be ☕

🧭 What you'll take away

  • The importance of Social Health (and how it differs from other kinds of health, such as mental health.)

  • How to better integrate aspects of good Social Health into your community.

  • New connections with other community builders trying to do the same thing as you.

🙆 Your Hosts

Audrey Burella volunteered and worked as a peer supporter and community facilitator since 2018. After recovering from growing up homeschooled and isolated in a high control group, she became hyper-fixated on learning everything she could about social health. Audrey created Kithship as a vessel for connection with others that feel similarly about the importance of platonic relationships and intimacy, working to nurture an environment that felt playful, homey, and safe for people like herself.

Johnny Libenzon is a digital health product manager on one hand and a fiction writer on the other. He primarily writes literary fiction, sci-fi, what he calls 'rural fantasy', and is currently working on a Norse Mythology-inspired debut novel. Johnny is also the founder of House of Larks, a creative community built on the suspicion that, while creating things alone is fine and dandy, doing it surrounded by likeminded folks is better.
