About Event

Joy is not just a temporary escape; it is a birthright, a legacy, a daily practice, and a radical act of liberation. Throughout history, Black Joy has been our medicine, cultivated in resistance, rooted in ancestral wisdom, and sustained through community.

This Reclaiming Joy session is an intentional, tender, and expansive sanctuary created specifically for Black folks and those with Black heritage to gather, rest, and centre our collective ease, pleasure, and liberation.

What to Expect

  • Grounding Opening: We’ll open with a gentle, somatic grounding activity to soothe our nervous systems and create a space of collective safety and arrival.

  • Radical Joy & Theory: A short exploration into Black Joy as a site of healing and liberation, drawing on decolonial wisdom, positive psychology, and the deep legacy of joy as resistance.

  • A Joyful Activity: An interactive activity focused on reclaiming our own joy.

  • Community & Connection: An open, unhurried space for sacred conversation, story-sharing, and building connection.

In a world that continuously demands our labor and resilience, this is a space to simply be. You do not need to earn your ease, justify your rest, or perform your joy here. Come curious, come open, come as you are.

About the facilitator

This session is facilitated by Sellisha Lockyer, founder of Sorabird Co an inclusive wellbeing company that provides consultancy support to organisations, alongside building a wellbeing platform that centres minoritised experiences. Her work is rooted in intersectionality, anti-racism, and inclusive wellbeing, informed by years of facilitating training, conducting inclusion audits and holding conversations in organisational and community settings.

At Sorabird Co we are actively creating the kind of spaces that Sellisha wished existed in the workplace, spaces where identity and difference can be held, rather than dismissed.
