HE Rank-and-File Dayschool: Organising in Unison against redundancies and for a trade dispute with the secretary of state education

​This education rank-and-file dayschool will focus on organising by Unison members in higher education. We will discuss how we can fight redundancies amongst professional services and facilities staff, and how we can push Unison to join UCU for a trade dispute with the Secretary of State for Education over the funding of higher education.

​​This meeting builds on the cross-branch UCU meetings that have developed the campaign. This led to UCU HE Congress passing this motion and UCU branches passing this motion to continue developing the dispute. However, if we are to change our sector, we need industrial-wide organisation in our sector - that is why we are encouraging as many Unison, UCU, Unite and other trade union members in HE to join our dayschool. • ​11am - Coffee, introductions and updates from branches.

• ​12pm - "Organising professional services staff against redundancies" with current and former Goldsmiths UCU reps

• ​12:45pm - "Rebuilding a UNISON branch" workshop with Birkbeck UNISON reps

• ​1:30pm - Lunch

• ​2:30pm - Discussion on building towards a trade dispute over funding across the HE unions.
