Finding What Matters: Part 1
There are many things that we are witnessing today that are catalyzing an experience of reckoning within us, forcing us to examine the dysfunctional stories we were taught growing up and ways in which they are rooted/what they are rooted to.
One of those stories was what we were taught success was, another still was what we were sold a "good life" is supposed to be and look like. Adhering to these notions of success keeps the capitalist-colonial machine alive. The dysfunction lies on what these notions depend on to exist: our self-worth and self-value. It feeds on our desire to feel helpful, worthy, valid to take up space, to keep us running in the hamster wheel.
The tricky part in all of this is that even when we become consciously aware of how notions of success and a "good life" attempts to bind our self-worth and self-value, some of the stories are so deeply engrained that we are still not able to fully break free of them.
This is where I love to work with Tarot because it is the language of the subconscious - full of symbols and meanings - where we are able traverse the landscape of our deepest realities, stories and beliefs. Through this journey, we can excavate the illusions from which we tie our self-worth and self-value to, begin to de-program ourselves, and do the work of finding what actually matters to us.
And this is the journey we begin here.
In Part 1 of What Really Matters, we will work with Tarot to access our collective subconscious to render and articulate the illusions onto which our self-worth and self-value are tied to when it comes to notions of success and what a good life is.
Finding What Matters, especially as we try to build ourselves new possibilities, require community. Creating a collective group where we hold space for these illusions and take the initial steps in locating what actually matters, together, calms our nervous system: you don't have to do this work alone. This space is here for you to do that.
