The "Effective" in Effective Giving: Charity Evaluation Map with the Founder of CEARCH
We all want our giving to count. The harder question is who you trust to tell you what "counting" looks like.
The London Effective Giving Community is hosting Joel Tan from the Centre for Exploratory Altruism Research (CEARCH) for a keynote.
Joel will walk us through the landscape of charity evaluators, looking at the pros and cons of specific evaluators from the perspective of donors who want to give more effectively (you!)
CEARCH is one of the evaluators in this overview, and Joel will be candid about where his own organisation fits and where it does not.
For our Q&A, we will also have Sunnie Huang of Giving Green and Stan Pinsent of Founders Pledge.
Afterwards, we are running a social sponsored by One for the World, an organisation dedicated to eliminating preventable childhood deaths, and home of the 🌍1% Pledge. Light vegan catering will be provided.
*Depending on attendee numbers, we may need to migrate away to a different venue
Expect in attendance: London-based givers, their most curious +1s, and internationally-based professionals coming to our city for a social impact conference on solving global problems.
Charity Evaluators and Funds we will discuss:
Global Health & Development: GiveWell, EA Funds, Founders Pledge, CEARCH, Happier Lives Institute, Charity Entrepreneurship
Climate Change: Founders Pledge, Giving Green
Animal Welfare: EA Funds, Animal Charity Evaluators
Global Catastrophic Risks: EA Funds, Longview Philanthropy, Founders Pledge

First time at an LEGC event or hearing about effective giving? Message Lorenzo or Chris and we'll make sure someone introduces you around when you arrive. The social half of the evening does most of the heavy lifting and we want you to get the value of it.
The London Effective Giving Community is part of a growing global movement of over 10,000 people giving a meaningful portion of their income to high-impact nonprofits. We pool our donations to tackle the world’s most pressing problems. Many of us have taken the 🔸10% Pledge, the 🔹Trial Pledge, or the 🌍 1% Pledge. We also warmly welcome those seriously exploring Effective Giving as a way to deepen their impact.
