Thought Experiments Blindfolded: REHEARSAL
This is the second rehearsal for a new immersive Thought Experiments experience. It's a more intimate, experimental version of Thought Experiments on Patios.
You’ll be greeted at the door with a blindfold. Once you step inside, you’re in the experience.
You’ll take part in two 25-minute rounds of discussion, using philosophy-inspired thought experiments as the jumping off point.
Without appearances or body language, conversation becomes something different. You may listen more closely, speak more honestly, and find yourself surprised by what comes up.
When the blindfolds come off, the evening isn’t over. There will be time to meet the people you've been talking with and experience a few moments that are best left as a surprise.
Because this is a rehearsal, I’ll be testing the arrival, pacing, prompts, transitions, and overall flow. I’ll also be capturing photos and video so future guests can get a sense of what the experience is like.
Please arrive between 7:30 and 7:45 p.m. The experience will begin shortly after, and late arrivals will be difficult to accommodate.
Light snacks, wine, and non-alcoholic beverages will be provided.
This is a very small experience with a maximum of 12 guests. Selected applicants will be invited to purchase a $40 ticket. Tickets are nonrefundable because each reservation holds one of the limited seats in the room.
FAQ
How will I get to my seat?
You'll be greeted at the entrance and guided to your seat before the experience begins. Your table will only be a few steps from the entrance, with no stairs in your way.
How long will I be blindfolded?
The discussion rounds will be about 20-25 minutes each, and we'll do two rounds, so about one hour total.
How do the rounds work?
Thought experiments will be read aloud at the beginning of the round. You'll be at a table with a small group. At the end of the first round, about half of the people will rotate so you'll meet new people. You will be guided at every step.
What if I need to use the restroom?
We recommend using the bathroom before for maximum immersion, but if you need anything at any time you can put your hand up and a host will help you.
Can I take my blindfold off?
We ask that everyone keep their blindfold on during the discussion rounds so everyone shares the same experience. Of course, if there is an issue, you can remove your blindfold at any time.
Do I need to know philosophy?
Not at all. The thought experiments are designed to spark interesting conversations, zero philosophy background required. Just curiosity.
What should I wear?
Whatever you'd normally wear to get drinks with friends. But please avoid visible logos, neon, or bright white. If you want inspiration: jewel tones and rich textures would be especially welcome.
Can I bring a plus one?
Yes, but please have them register separately so they can add their details and sign the waiver.
What if I'm nervous?
Most people are. The first few minutes feel unusual, then it quickly becomes surprisingly natural. It may even be part of the fun.
