An Afternoon of Deeper Conversations by Walnut
Tired of small talk? Let’s talk about something that actually matters.
We think meaningful connection starts with better conversations.
Join Walnut for a Saturday afternoon of thoughtful conversation, practical relationship guidance and genuine human connection, in a relaxed pub setting at Paxton’s Head. This event is for ages 25-40. Capped at 30 attendees to keep it intimate and meaningful.
You’ll meet in small groups of 4–5 people and use Walnut’s Deep Conversation Cards to move beyond the usual “What do you do?” and “Where are you from?” questions.
Before you begin, a therapist will share a few simple, psychology-informed tools for communicating, connecting and building healthier relationships.
Then, it’s time to get talking.
We’ll finish with an open Therapist AMA, where you can ask questions about dating, relationships, attachment, communication, boundaries, conflict, connection and everything in between.
Come curious. Go deeper.
What will happen?
1. A short therapist introduction
We’ll start with a brief, practical introduction to healthy relationship skills. Think useful tools you can actually take into your life.
2. Deep conversations
You’ll be placed into small groups of around 4–5 people and given Walnut’s Deep Conversation Cards.
You might talk about relationships, values, vulnerability, connection, communication, what makes you feel understood, or simply discover something unexpected about the people around you.
3. Therapist AMA
We’ll come back together at the end for an open Q&A with a therapist.
Ask the questions you’ve always wanted answered about relationships, dating, attachment, communication, boundaries, conflict or anything else that’s on your mind.
Who is this for?
This event is for anyone who wants more meaningful connection and better conversations.
You might be:
Single and curious about relationships
Dating or thinking about dating
In a relationship and interested in building better connection
Taking a break from dating and wanting to understand yourself better
Someone who loves meeting new people but hates small talk
Someone who wants to become a better communicator
Simply curious about people, relationships and what makes us connect
The focus is simply on meaningful conversation, connection and learning how we relate to one another.
Is this therapy?
No.
A qualified therapist will guide the opening and host the AMA, but this is not therapy, group therapy or a substitute for professional mental health support.
Think of it as a social experience with some psychology-informed guidance woven in.
Do I have to share anything personal?
Absolutely not.
The questions are designed to encourage meaningful conversation, but you always choose what you're comfortable sharing.
You can pass on a question, keep things light, or take the conversation somewhere completely different.
There is no pressure to disclose anything personal.
Will I be put into a group?
Yes.
The main conversation portion takes place in small groups of approximately 4–5 people.
We do this intentionally. Smaller groups make it easier to actually hear each other, participate and have conversations that go beyond surface level.
Are the conversation cards like icebreakers?
Not quite.
They're designed to take you a little deeper than the usual event questions.
Think thought-provoking prompts rather than awkward icebreakers.
And there are no right answers. The point isn't to complete the cards. The point is to see where a good question can take a conversation.
Do I need to come with friends?
No.
In fact, we encourage you to come even if you don't know anyone.
You'll be placed into a small group, so there's no need to arrive with your own group or worry about finding someone to talk to.
Of course, you're welcome to bring a friend too.
What should I expect to leave with?
Hopefully, a few things:
A better conversation. A new perspective. A little more self-awareness. And maybe a new connection or two.
And if you ask the therapist a good question, potentially an answer you've been wondering about for a while.
Come curious. Go deeper.
