Closing the Gap in Cardiovascular Health: Advancing Innovation and Impact for Women
Philips and Northwell Health are pleased to host a high-level roundtable, coinciding with the Eightieth United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), in support of the World Economic Forum’s Global Alliance for Women’s Health and Health for All initiatives.
Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) affect more than 640 million people globally, and remain the leading cause of death among women worldwide. Women are persistently underdiagnosed, undertreated, and underrepresented in cardiac research and innovation. They experience atypical symptoms, different disease patterns, and hormonal influences (e.g., pregnancy creates unique risk profiles).
This urgent challenge requires systemic change across technology, clinical practice, financing, and regulation. The roundtable will convene policymakers, clinicians, researchers, and industry leaders to:
Examine gender-specific disparities in cardiovascular health and their root causes
Explore how advanced diagnostics, digital health solutions, and data-driven innovation can improve detection and treatment of CVD in women
Identify opportunities for global partnerships to scale solutions and strengthen health systems
Discussion Themes:
Closing the gap: Improving diagnosis, treatment, and access to specialized cardiac services for women
Innovation in Practice: Harnessing advanced diagnostics, digital tools, and novel care models to improve women’s cardiovascular outcomes
Global Collaboration: Building stronger partnerships between governments, health systems, patient organizations, and the private sector
Speakers
Carla Peron, MD — Chief Medical Officer, Philips
Prof. Jennifer Mieres, MD — Senior Vice President, Northwell Health; Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer; Center for Equity of Care
