Own Your Ask
A Negotiation Showcase with Renata Madeira
You negotiate more often than you think.
Every time you advocate for compensation, ask for resources, set a boundary, influence a decision or navigate an important relationship, you’re negotiating.
Own Your Ask is a highly interactive 3-hour experience where you’ll practice how to advocate for what you need while building the trust and relationships that support long-term success.
Why This Matters
For women, simply being told to “ask for more” misses part of the story. Research shows that gender can influence how negotiation behavior is perceived and rewarded, particularly when women advocate for themselves, and ambiguity about what is negotiable can contribute to gender disparities.
The answer isn’t to become harder, louder, or someone you’re not. Negotiation is a skill you can practice.
You can learn to use your voice, understand the dynamics in the room, and advocate for what matters to you.
What You’ll Gain
Prepare with purpose. Get clear about what you want, understand what matters to the other person, and identify opportunities to create mutual value.
Ask better questions and listen differently. Practice uncovering the interests, assumptions, and information beneath someone’s stated position.
Advocate without abandoning authenticity. Communicate what you need without treating negotiation as a battle or sacrificing important relationships.
Practice before the stakes are high. Experience realistic negotiations, receive feedback, and leave better prepared for your next important conversation.
The experience is grounded in the Principles of Collaboration, an approach that prioritizes collaboration, authenticity, trust, and successful long-term relationships.
Who Should Attend?
This experience is for you if:
You know what you want but sometimes struggle to ask for it, whether that’s compensation, a promotion, resources, flexibility, boundaries, or support.
You want to become a stronger negotiator without becoming someone you’re not. You value collaboration and relationships but don’t want that to mean continually compromising your own needs.
You’re already negotiating and want to get better. You lead teams, manage clients, build partnerships, make deals, or navigate competing priorities and want practical skills you can use immediately.
This Isn’t a Sit-and-Listen Workshop
Watch it. Break it down. Try it. Get feedback. Apply it.
You’ll observe negotiation in action, unpack the behaviors that influence the outcome, practice with realistic scenarios, and apply what you learn to a negotiation that matters to you.
This learning-by-doing approach is central to the New Beginnings methodology because practicing new behaviors in a supportive environment helps turn knowledge into skills you can actually use.
