BACKGROUND

The United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) is the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative, uniting over 24,000 companies and 70+ Country Networks worldwide in advancing universal principles on human rights, labour, environment, and anti-corruption. The UN Global Compact Network Bangladesh (GCNB) works with the private sector to accelerate business action in Bangladesh, supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact.

Sustainability Day is the annual flagship event of UN Global Compact Network Bangladesh (GCNB). InSustainability Day 2026, the programme will examine how businesses can respond to current pressures and pursue opportunities for growth through responsible practice. Three morning panels will feature opportunities and examples from exporters, industry energy users and providers, and blue economy enterprises. An afternoonPrivate Sector Investment Forum will bring investors together with private sector stakeholders to explain available investment pathways and the requirements for accessing them.

Bangladesh’s exporters face shifts in trade conditions and market expectations, while energy supply and costsaffect industrial operations. At the same time, Bangladesh’s Maritime and Blue Economy potential offers roomfor new enterprises and improved value chains. Companies need practical accounts of what peers are doing, what has worked, and what remains difficult. The event will connect those lessons to opportunities that businesses can assess for themselves.

The theme, New Frontiers for Growth, reflects both adaptation and enterprise development. In GCNB’s context, growth should be commercially sound and consistent with respect for people, environmental responsibility and integrity. These considerations will inform the discussion in every session, alongside the business case for action.

OBJECTIVES

  • Identify opportunities for export growth, more effective industrial energy use, and responsible blue economy enterprise development.

  • Share concrete business practices and lessons that companies can adapt to their own operations.

  • Give private sector stakeholders direct information from investors on their priorities, instruments, eligibility and routes to engagement.

  • Create connections among businesses, investors, public institutions and other organisations for follow-up after the event.

AUDIENCE AND FORMAT

The event is intended for company leaders and sustainability teams, exporters, manufacturers, energy solution providers, blue economy enterprises, investors, business associations, policymakers, development partners and researchers. The three panels will use moderated discussion and audience questions to draw out businessexamples. The Private Sector Investment Forum will use short investor presentations followed by questions andstructured conversations with companies.

EXPECTED OUTCOMES

  • A concise record of business opportunities, demonstrated practices and unresolved barriers from the three panels.

  • Clear guidance for participating businesses on investor priorities, investment criteria and points of contact.

  • A short list of potential follow-up conversations, with interested organisations able to continue discussions after the event.
