About Event

A bully’s urination ritual becomes a lifelong kink. A man joins an ex-gay support group to seduce his roommate. A dom must satisfy his sub to save his life.

Join us on Friday, October 24 at Accent Sisters for the launch of Spent Bullets (HarperVia), the English translation of Taiwanese writer Terao Tetsuya’s hilariously dark story collection about self-loathing, deviancy, and sadomasochism among a circle of high-achieving engineers.

Expect mingling, a translation tasting, a conversation between Kevin Wang and Anelise Chen, and signing. Books available for purchase.

Kevin Wang has published in The Margins, Circumference, Asymptote, Gulf Coast, and Books from Taiwan. As a 2023–2025 Fulbright Taiwan grantee, he worked in faculty development at National Taipei University of Technology. He was a 2025 Taiwan Literature Base Writer in Residence and earned an MFA from Columbia University, where he taught undergraduate writing.

Anelise Chen is an American writer of fiction and nonfiction. She teaches creative writing at Columbia University. Her first novel, So Many Olympic Exertions, was published by Kaya Press in 2017. It was a VCU Cabell First Novelist Award Finalist. Her second book, Clam Down (One World), based on her brief stint as the Paris Review Daily’s “mollusk correspondent,” was released in June 2025. She is a National Book Foundation 5 under 35 Awardee. Her writing has appeared in The Atlantic, New York Times, The Believer, McSweeney’s, BOMB, The New Republic, NPR, Village Voice, Conjunctions, and more.
