Sip Stories: Castelão Chameleon
🍷 One grape. Six completely different identities.
Tonight we'll be hanging out with Castelão — Portugal's great shapeshifter. Much compared with Pinot Noir, we'll be sipping six versions of the exact same grape, and no glass will taste the same. We're talking a white wine made from this red grape, barrel aged, sparkling, and more. Same raw material, wildly different personalities in the hands of different winemakers. Come find out just how far one grape can stretch when nobody tells it to behave.
About Sip Stories
Sip Stories is a laid back and intimate tasting experience built around small scale Portuguese wines. Each session shares stories about the grapes, land and people behind what's in your glass. We keep the table deliberately small so there's room for real conversation (and second pours!).
Your Host/What to expect
Hi! I'm Valerie, ex-diplomat, accidental somm and full on wine nerd. I've worked harvest with tiny producers in Portugal, created wine lists for restaurants, and am now on a mission to build a community of wine curious people who prefer conversation over a masterclass. I'll be opening bottles you won't see in supermarkets, and we'll spend an evening finding out why we like what we like, how to describe it without being pretentious (I try at least) and appreciating the people and passion behind every bottle.
Come for the wine, stay for the stories, and leave knowing a little bit more about what makes Portuguese wine the middle child of the wine world.
No prior wine knowledge needed! Come curious. Come thirsty.
