How Do I Ask My Friends To Give?
You care about something. Your friends probably care too. The only thing standing between your group chat and actual money for the cause is... you having to ask.
That's the good news. The other good news: asking people you know to donate to something is easier than you think. People give $5 at a bake sale to someone they've met once. Your people have met you lots of times. So you're already ahead!
The trick is just having a plan — a little structure, a few good words, and people to practice with.
That's what this free, two-part training is: everything you need to turn care into actual dollars this Giving Tuesday — the worldwide celebration of generosity and start of the holiday season, when everybody’s thinking a little bit more about how they want to give. It’s the perfect time to grow your impact by bringing people in alongside you. We'll show you how, so you don't have to figure it out alone in your Notes app at 1am. No experience needed or expected!
Two live sessions:
🗓️ Tues Nov 17, 5–6pm PT / 8–9pm ET: the basics: how to ask, and who to ask
🗓️ Tues Dec 1, 5–6pm PT / 8–9pm ET: when you’ll actually make some asks — and learn how to bring people in to your cause beyond just one donation
✏️ You’ll be asked to do a little bit of “homework” before and after each session, on your own time.
Can’t make it? Register for the recordings, and find a friend to watch and practice with. If there’s enough demand, we can open a second live session.
💸 Cost: Free! (Thanks to generous donors, volunteers never need to pay for our trainings.)
Is this for me? Can you text a friend? Then yes! Especially if:
You've never fundraised before and want a friendly place to learn the ropes
You’ve already been donating regularly and want to do more good
You're on a board and want to actually put your contact list to work
You're a volunteer community organizer who’s fundraising-curious
You’ve been sharing fundraisers online and want to turn more of those story likes into actual donations
You care about something, have a couple of people you want to invite into it with you, and want a structured, supportive way to do that
What you'll walk away with
A complete peer-to-peer fundraising toolkit — from building your list to saying the actual words out loud
The confidence to ask people directly for support, big or small, and actual practice with fellow first-timers
Accountability, celebration, and follow-up support so you don't lose momentum
Important note!
The whole point is that you'll actually fundraise around Giving Tuesday! If you’re not ready for that, this might not be the right moment for you — and that's okay.
We've got other free resources you can use whenever you're ready, including our resource library and 1:1 coaching for volunteer fundraisers. We also think that The Accidental Fundraiser and its companion workplans are especially helpful for first-time fundraisers.
Come learn to ask. It's easier than you think, and way more fun!
