Nakanoshima Qross Global Life Sciences Cluster vol.4

*Japanese follows English

A Special Program Connecting Global Startups, Investment Communities, and Business Opportunities

Building on the growing interest and opportunities for exchange generated by Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, this program aims to transform these connections from a one-time opportunity into continuous collaboration.

Through Nakanoshima Qross, we seek to foster an international life science innovation ecosystem and investment community that connects startups, investors, corporations, research institutions, and global innovation hubs.

The program will feature two events. In addition to introducing activities and initiatives by overseas life science clusters, VCs, and CVCs, promising Japanese startups will deliver pitches designed to facilitate new business matching and international collaboration among investors, corporations, and startups.

Who Should Attend

  • Life science and healthcare startups

  • VCs, CVCs, investors, and corporate investors

  • Companies in pharmaceuticals, medical devices, diagnostics, regenerative medicine, biomanufacturing, and digital health

  • Universities, research institutions, and healthcare organizations

  • Overseas life science clusters, accelerators, and support organizations

  • Companies and organizations interested in collaboration with startups, investment, joint research, business development, and international expansion

  • Alloy Therapeutics / Megan Frisk, Ph.D.

Dr. Megan Frisk is the Chief Strategy Officer at Vigilance, a division of Alloy Therapeutics focused on national security and rapid therapeutic response to emerging biological threats. Prior to joining Alloy, she served as the Chief of Staff and inaugural Director for International Affairs at the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H). Megan’s career in the U.S. government includes roles as Senior Advisor to the Special Envoy for Critical & Emerging Technology at the U.S. Department of State; Director for Biotechnology Risk and Biological Weapons Nonproliferation at the White House National Security Council (NSC); and AAAS Science & Technology Policy Fellow in the Office of the Science & Technology Adviser to the Secretary of State. During her tenure at the State Department, she also managed bilateral science and technology relations, research integrity and security policy, and biosecurity policy. Megan brings experience in scientific publishing as well, having served as Senior Editor at Science Translational Medicine and Editor of Trends in Biotechnology. She earned her Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and her B.S. in Biochemistry from the University of Virginia.

6:40 PM : Pitch

PurinoScience is a pre-incorporation drug discovery venture developing a new therapeutic approach based on xanthine oxidoreductase (XOR) inhibition and purine salvage. Our core hypothesis is that XOR inhibition can preserve purines for salvage and support the recovery of lost brain and muscle function. We are starting with Down syndrome as a focused human setting in which to test this biology. Our strategy is to first learn from real-world human exposure to existing XOR inhibitors, establish Human Proof of Biology using pathway biomarkers and functional outcomes, and then use those insights to develop a proprietary next-generation XOR inhibitor. While Down syndrome is our first indication, our long-term ambition is to expand this biology into larger areas including neurological disease, muscle disorders, sarcopenia, and age-related functional decline. PurinoScience aims to combine human learning, translational biology, and proprietary chemistry to create differentiated medicines for functional recovery.

Our core technology Stealth RNA Vector (SRV) is an ideal tool for reprogramming human cells with exogenous factors. We plan to launch new SRV vector for generating clinical-grade human iPSC in 2027.

Commentator

  • Alloy Therapeutics / Alexander Titus, Ph.D.

Alexander Titus, Ph.D., is an AI and biotechnology executive focused on building the systems required to translate scientific capability into real-world impact. He works at the intersection of technology, national security, and the life sciences, with a career spanning the private sector, government, and academia.
