The Future of Memory
The Memory Keepers Club presents The Future of Memory, a webinar examining how Black archivists and librarians are building the future of memory work through knowledge coalitions and expansive pathways to preservation. Led by Sasha Jelan, a traveling archivist for the HBCU Digital Trust, this program aims to shed light on the work of career archivists as well as create an open forum for ideating about the future of memory work.
The HBCU Digital Library Trust thrives on passion for the preservation and broad digital accessibility of African American history and culture. With trust at the forefront, they collaborate across Historically Black Colleges and Universities to unite historical collections with digitization resources and expertise to make HBCU archives accessible to all.
This webinar is designed for the next generation of BIPOC memory keepers and memory workers who want to learn about the work of archivists and contribute to the future of preservation. By the end of the series, participants will:
Learn about the reality of working on grant-based work in the GLAM space
Understand the importance of informed relationship building with institutions that represent historically marginalized peoples (Ethical Stewardship)
Understand reciprocal archival practice - how new digital preservation practices can deliver direct value back to communities whose histories are being shared
Be encouraged to bridge grassroots memory work with institutional archives/backing
