About the Workshop

Finding land for ground-up development still depends on scattered data sources, manual research, and workflow bottlenecks that eat into deal flow. A new generation of AI tools and software platforms is changing what's possible — but most teams don't know where to start or which tools are actually worth using.

This workshop is a practical, 90-minute walkthrough of how to use AI and site selection software to source, screen, and pursue land across residential, multifamily, industrial, and retail projects. We will cover how to use Claude with public parcel data to identify qualified sites, how to evaluate the vendor landscape and choose tools for your shop, and how to take outreach from site identification to landowner contact.

You will leave with a clear view of what tools exist, how to use them, and two ready-to-use resources you can put to work immediately.

What You'll Learn

How to use AI with public parcel data to find sites yourself
We will show how to use Claude alongside freely available parcel datasets to filter sites by acreage, zoning, and vacancy — across single-family, multifamily, industrial, and retail development. No software subscription required to start.

Which public datasets actually matter for site selection
We will walk through the most useful publicly available datasets for different asset classes and markets and show how to apply them inside an AI workflow.

How the site selection vendor landscape breaks down
We will define the categories of software tools available, what each does well, where they overlap, and how to evaluate which ones are worth paying for based on your deal type and volume.

How to take outreach from parcel to landowner
Once qualified sites are identified, we will briefly cover how technology can support direct outreach to landowners — from contact identification to first touch.

Tools We'll Demo

We will demonstrate different tools so you can see what separates each tier in practice, not on paper.

  • Pillar — Site selection and parcel analysis

  • LandPortal — Land listing and parcel search

  • LandID — Mapping and property research

  • Claude — AI-powered parcel filtering and site screening using public data

What You'll Take Home

  • Full session recording and slides

  • Vendor Resource Guide — A categorized overview of the site selection software landscape with tool recommendations by asset class and use case

  • Public Datasets Cheatsheet — A comprehensive list of the public datasets most useful for DIY site selection with AI
