About Event

Art of Order returns with The People Shall…, a documentary by Kenyan filmmakers Nick Wambugu and Mark Maina Maingi. Hosted by ALN Academy in partnership with Docubox, Art of Order is a screening series that uses film to open space for public reflection and conversation on justice, governance, and lived experience.

Emerging from the events surrounding Kenya’s controversial Finance Bill, The People Shall… documents the Gen Z-led movement that transformed outrage into uprising, culminating in the violent June 25th attack on Parliament. Told through the eyes of protesters, medics, lawyers, and citizen storytellers, many of them women, the documentary captures a decentralized revolution powered by grief, humour, community, and courage, as protests moved from online dissent into the streets. Blending real-time footage, social media chaos, and intimate interviews, the film captures a generation that stood up to power and dared to imagine a country that works for everyone.

The evening will also feature a short screening of "What Shall I Wear To My Funeral", a documentary by Robert Mutahi supported through Docubox’s Follow the Leader project.
The film follows Hunter, a young Kenyan man from Kisumu County now grappling with the harsh realities of unemployment in Nairobi, highlighting his unique use of poetry and spoken word as powerful tools of civic education. He also uses his voice to educate people about financial literacy and the oppressive system of taxation that burdens the Kenyan people. This story concerns resistance against bad governance, a repressive finance bill, police brutality, and the relentless struggle for justice.
