LWA-G20 Webinar Series: Harnessing Africa’s Critical Minerals: From Extraction to Transformation, 13 Nov. 2025
Background
For the first time in history, an African nation, South Africa, presides over the G20, the world’s most influential economic forum. With over 80% of global GDP represented at the G20 table, this is not just a symbolic milestone, it is a test of Africa’s capacity to influence global policy in its own favour.
South Africa’s presidency is guided by the theme “Solidarity, Equality, Sustainability,” and anchored in the African philosophy of Ubuntu, “I am because we are.”
But beyond the official speeches and declarations, one fundamental question remains:
Will this spirit of Ubuntu translate into real, measurable gains for Africa and its people?
Across the continent, citizens, entrepreneurs, academics, and civil society leaders continue to question whether Africa truly benefits from being part of global platforms like the G20 ,or whether these spaces remain dominated by external interests.
As part of our ongoing commitment to amplifying African voices in global affairs, Leading Women of Africa (LWA) seeks to create an inclusive platform where the perspectives of African citizens, scholars, and professionals, those often excluded from formal policymaking spaces, can be heard and documented.
LWA will be hosting a series of webinars on the upcoming G20 Summit during October and November 2025, under the Beyond Boundaries initiative.
