About Event

a16z Speedrun is becoming one of the most talked-about rooms in tech.
The problem is, most people still have no idea how that room actually works.

There’s a lot of speculation, a lot of recycled advice, and a lot of surface-level comparison to YC. The obvious questions about Speedrun are everywhere. The useful ones are still harder to find.

We’ll intend to dive deeper into what founders actually unlock once they’re in — and how they start turning access, resources, and proximity into real momentum.

For anyone who wants the fuller context going in, we made a short audio walkthrough covering how Speedrun works, how it stacks up against other programs, and what founders should know before they apply: https://sunapp.ai/course/a16z-speedrun

(invite code: phfriends)

What We’ll Get Into:

  • What actually makes a startup hard to ignore in a room like Speedrun?

  • Does getting in solve the hard part, or just change what the hard part is?

  • What gets remembered in the application process, and what gets overlooked fast?

  • What are people overestimating in the application process, and what are they missing?

  • What looks impressive on paper but does not actually move the needle?

  • What makes a team feel like a bet worth paying attention to?

  • Are founders applying to Speedrun for the same reasons they apply to YC, or not really?

Who is this built for?
Founders and builders thinking seriously about Speedrun, YC, or any program where access, visibility, and momentum start to compound fast.

Also for anyone trying to understand how strong work actually gets noticed.

What to expect:
Small room, open discussion, practical answers. Not a lecture.

About the host:

SUN
We’re building SUN as part of a16z Speedrun, so this conversation sits close to what we’re living in real time. Working on that has pulled us deeper into the same questions a lot of founders are now asking: how ideas spread, how attention forms, and why getting seen can become the real bottleneck. That’s a big part of the lens behind this session.

SUN is an audio-first learning app that turns topics, questions, and ideas into podcasts, courses, and audiobook-style lessons in seconds.
