📝 Project Abstracts

Industry Host: AES

  • Project: Analysis of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) in Key U.S. States: Insights and Recommendations for Optimizing Deployment.

AES is a global energy company accelerating a 100% carbon-free grid with a portfolio of solar, wind and energy storage. For the Capstone Project, AES worked with the NYU team to further its penetration into the New York storage market. The team profiled the current energy storage market in New York as well as 4 focus states: Maryland, New Jersey, Texas and Virginia. Each market was benchmarked and compared against key levers: Policy Support, Market Status, Revenue Opportunities and Project Feasibility. They then completed a deep dive of the New York market, performing interviews with industry experts, analysis on NYISO interconnection data and system projections and a competitor analysis. Findings include key watch areas of focus states, New York zonal targets and increased competitor perspective.

Industry Host: XCharge

  • Project: GTM strategy for Gridlink (XCHARGE's newest charger) in Texas

XCHARGE is a global leader in EV charging solutions and recently launched Gridlink, an advanced DC fast charger with integrated battery storage technology. To explore Gridlink’s market potential in Texas, the NYU team developed a tailored go-to-market (GTM) strategy as part of their capstone project. The team conducted a Total Addressable Market (TAM) analysis of Texas’s DC fast charging (DCFC) landscape, including evaluating Gridlink’s revenue potential and cost-saving opportunities through peak shaving. They then analyzed policies and market opportunities within the hotel and hospital sectors, leveraging customer interviews and business model assessments to identify the most viable target. Recommendations included prioritizing hospitals as the primary focus and positioning Gridlink around key benefits such as cost savings, energy reliability, and sustainability. This strategy provides XCHARGE with actionable insights to guide their GTM efforts for Gridlink in Texas and drive scalable growth.
