About Event

Food delivery workers in Edinburgh, join the Workers' Observatory and ROOM for our workshop titled "We Deserve Fair Work!"

For too long, delivery workers have faced poorly paid and dangerous work. Together, we have been arguing for better working conditions for delivery riders in the city.

At the workshop, we will discuss:

  • Ongoing issues food delivery workers in the city face every day, including poor pay, accidents, and theft

  • Historical examples of delivery workers organising in Edinburgh, and similar current struggles around the world

  • Mapping high-risk locations in the city for traffic accidents and crime

  • Scotland's Fair Work agenda and how gig workers fit into it (or how they are excluded)

  • How to develop core messages for a campaign for fair work

We will also be joined by representatives from Edinburgh Council, who will hear from you on how food delivery workers should be included in the city's Fair Work Charter.

Each delivery worker will be paid £90 for attending the workshop (£15/hr, 6 hours excluding lunch break). Note: this is an increase from the initially advertised £75. Lunch will be provided.

If you are not a delivery worker but wish to attend, please get in touch at [email protected]

This event is organised by the Workers' Observatory and ROOM in Edinburgh and funded via a grant from the Barry Amiel & Norman Melburn Trust.
