This is one for the trail lovers. Challenge yourself on one of Kenya's most iconic trails, or simply come for a hike, a single loop, or to cheer on fellow runners.
The Challenge
Complete as many loops as possible within 12 hours.
🏆 Current record: 6 loops in 12 hours, set by the late Cheruiyot.
Each loop:
Starts and ends at the KWS gate
Covers approximately 12 km
Includes around 750 m of elevation gain
Goes to the crater rim, around the rim, and back
To keep things interesting, we'll alternate directions on each loop:

🔄 Anti-clockwise
Run Details
Main Challenge: 6:30 AM – 6:30 PM
Fun Run/Hike: Join at any time during the day
Route: 100% trail
Expect scenic, dusty and challenging terrain.
For your safety, please do not begin a new loop after 4:30 PM unless a ranger is on the trail.

KWS park entry fees apply.
Please pay in advance via the KWS eCitizen portal and present your confirmation at the gate:

Support
A static support station will be available at the base with:
Water refill station
Fruits
Please carry your own reusable water bottle or hydration pack.
Meals
Bring your own food and drinks, or
Purchase refreshments from the kiosks near the gate.
Accommodation
Camping is available for those who wish to stay overnight.
Carpooling is highly encouraged. Feel free to ask for or offer a ride in the group.
