About Event

We're doing it again.

Version 2 of Kuldeep Dhankar's negotiation workshop, this time on a Sunday evening!

If you missed what happened the first time, here's the thread that started all of this: https://x.com/aditipar/status/2103784373019721782

What happened last time

Forty people packed into one room for three hours on a weekday evening (or should we say, locked in?). What they said:

  • "A masterclass in human psychology!!"

  • "Very few things are worth fighting Blr traffic on a weekday evening. This one definitely was."

  • "Made me feel like I'm in a very interesting and useful college lecture after ages."

  • "Definitely made me look at negotiations in repeated games in a different light."

  • "The result of a good negotiation isn't win-win, it's happy-happy"

And a partial list of questions that got answered in the room:

  1. Why helicopters are unsafe

  2. Landlord stakeholder management

  3. Negotiation vs bargaining vs sandbagging vs stonewalling vs overpowering

  4. How to win every "negotiation" with your parents or divide chores with your partner when everyone's busy & tired

  5. The wrong way to ask for a raise, a promotion, or a discount

What's new in Version 2

The first skill is still the one everything else rests on: knowing whether you're in a negotiation at all. Last time Kuldeep taught that skill. This time he's going into the principles that underpin it:

  • Why trust is a decision and not a feeling

  • Why every interaction is a performance with a front stage and a backstage

  • Why a favour you can't return turns into power

  • Why some exchanges settle on the spot and others are meant to stay open.

Then the 10 skills of Negotiation built on that stack of concepts, with the help of (painfully) real examples, and the situations you bring into the room. Ideally this would be an multi-session course! In these 3 hours, we'll offer a primer + reading list to dive into key concepts from sociology & psychology.

Who this is for

People who avoid the difficult conversation, or people who turn it into a fight. If you've read the books and listened to the podcasts and still freeze in the actual moment of negotiation, this is for you. There's something about learning it live and in-person: Ask anyone who attended the last time!

Details

📅 25th October, Sunday
⏰ 4 - 7:30pm
📍 Bangalore International Centre, Domlur

Registration process

Free to attend! We have 50 spots this time, because too many people couldn't make it for the previous version.

Please use the Luma form to apply and we'll confirm your spot by Friday. Only apply if you can actually make it! If you must cancel after getting a spot, please let Aditi know so that your space can go to someone else.

Note that this workshop isn't recorded and is unlikely to be in the future, too. Vegas rules apply.

Don't spend your Sunday evening waiting for Monday blues/greys! Come off.

About your hosts

Kuldeep is the co-founder of Last9, and previously built the enterprise sales function at CleverTap. He has built businesses across cycles in India for the past 25 years.

He is a storyteller at heart, with a deep love for books and the mountains.

Aditi is an educator who designs leadership and learning experiences, especially those that build agency. Organising this workshop is admittedly a selfish way for her to learn this stuff from an expert, and it's way more fun to do that with a community and in person!
